The 1st of June was a glorious day for Dingwall Field Club's outing to Foyers. It was a pleasant drive along Loch Ness to our meeting place in the car park at the Waterfalls Cafe in Foyers. From here we drove to Glen Lia and parked at Cameron’s Farm Shop and Cafe. A short walk up the hill bought us to a bridge across the top of the waterfalls and a track up the valley which we followed. We passed through fields observing the many wild flowers, especially some bright blue Speedwell. We did not see much wild life apart from a wasp-like insect which turned out to be a two-banded longhorn beetle, or hear many birds other than a raven which appeared to be nesting on a cliff. The others must have been lying low in the heat. We also saw a very interesting tree (alder?) which had split, allowing a rowan to take root in the split. The rowan itself is now quite a big tree and both trees looked quite healthy. It was a very warm day and we were grateful for the shade when we passed through woodland. When we reached a huge shady boulder overlooking the river it was voted time for lunch. From here we retraced our steps to the cars and a welcome ice cream from the cafe. The whole walk was very attractive and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
