Murals
After splashing paint on paper comes a bigger canvas in decorating! I love putting paint on walls, even a plain colour. But to decide to paint a picture on a wall, that took me to a bigger plane.
I remembered as a child, transfering a small picture to a larger page by using a grid and estimating the lines on the larger one from the smaller one. I simply used that technique with these wall murals.
Matt's first bedroom When Matthew's bedroom was to be decorated, I went mad. One of his favourite books was an animal book, so I decided to copy some of them onto his wall. He loved it. We had many a time making up stories of his favourite animals. |

Matt's Second Bedroom In Heath Crescent, the walls were huge! Matt was only about 1 when I reproduced this much loved book on Donald Duck at the circus. Unbeknown to us, his cot was right up against DD and the Lion. We learned years later he was terrified by it! No wonder he kept us up night after night for months. |

Rebecca's Room In preparation for his little sister coming, Matt at 3 and a half helped me paint thses field scenes with great flourish. And in his 20s, he's been known to do huge ones on walls for a few of his charges. Little did we know what we were practising then. |

Hockneyesque Loo We went a bit clever in Heath Crescent with a blue tiled loo done by Philip and a mural to look at when the door was shut. This was a copy of a tiny picture, 2" x 1" in a magazine about Hockney and we all loved it. Matt always loved Hockney, did a project on him for Art GCSE and passed. Again, what do you realise what you sow. |

Heathfield Library Mural When the head said, we need that bare wall covering, I jumped at it. It took my a fortnight of the summer holidays but I loved doing it in 1997. I reproduced it from the inside of a Ladybird book, showing a tree with lots of characters from books, and I added some more modern ones. It is still there. A bit of me lingers on there. |

Alice for Alice Baker The first of my friends whose children I added some detail on the bedroom walls. Here, Alice was looked over by Alice. |
|
More for Alice I think these were also for Alice although my memory might be failing. |

Hospital Walls Someone who worked in a little annex for disabled and retarded babies asked me to come and brighten up the walls and give challenges in stretching, talking and colour recognition. The babies and toddlers would be encouraged to interact with my paintings. I was actually paid for my time too, but within a couple of years the building was knocked down and the provision done elsewhere. |
