Mermade Festival

Mermade Festival
The first ever Mermade Seaside Festival in Eastbourne!

Will run from the 1st September to 23rd September, in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

Businesses and house holds in the Seaside, Seaside Road, and Devonshire area of Eastbourne are challenged to create a Mermaid, Merman, or other sea creature, made from their plastic rubbish; bottles, bags, cutlery, straws, cups, food wrap etc, and to display it in their window or outside their premisis, for the duration of the festival.

There will be prizes for the best entries! (TBA)

The idea is to create awareness of the amount of plastic that is polluting our marine enviroment, to encourage people to use less plastic in their lives whenever possible, and to encourage people to take part in the Big Beach Clean of 14th-17th September, run by the Marine Conservation Society. It is also to raise awareness of local group Plastic Free Eastbourne.

And it is to brighten up our Seaside area so that people can follow a trail of the mermaids/creatures TO our

'Plastic Ocean' Exhibition, made by local artists, all about marine life and pollution of our seas by plastic. This will be held in DC3, 1-5 Seaside, Eastbourne BN22 7NA East Sussex in the week 17th-23rd September.
There will be work shops to make sea creatures from plastic in July and August; time and dates TBA so keep an eye on the Mermade Festival Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Mermade-Festival-329169294318828/?modal=admin_todo_tour
