Project Lunch - 26th April

Tuesday's Project Lunch featured "Haiti Help", when Lou Davidson and Elaine Stark from Haiti Help were presented with a cheque for £1000.

Haiti Help are based in Fife - what's their story?

In 2009, three nurses from Fife , Carole Hatten, Elaine Stark and Lou Davidson volunteered to go to the island of La Gonave in Haiti to help immunise children.

Although they were expecting to see poverty, the nurses were shocked at the severely deprived conditions they encountered, particularly in the local Children’s Home.

They formed Haiti Help to raise enough money to make a difference. In 2013 the Children’s home moved to brand new, purpose built accommodation. Haiti Help works in conjunction with a co-operative of other charities and American non-profits. The co-operative is called Okipe. Okipe provides on going support for Mme. Soliette, the director of the Children’s Village. Haiti Help works with the local hospital to fund basic medical care, and works closely with a local self help group ASHOG to help finance their programmes.

We Are Open Again!

We're delighted to tell you that after four months - Common Grounds is once again open!

Our opening hours are Tuesday and Saturday only, from 10 - 12.30.  Hopefully these restricted hours will just be for the short term. Very importantly, every care and safeguard has been put in place for our customers and volunteers, to enable them to return with confidence and enjoyment.

Anyone with spare time and a willingness would be very welcome to join our team.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Coronovirus Update

We're all well aware of the situation regarding the Coronavirus and its implications.  After a management meeting this morning 17th March, it was sadly and reluctantly agreed that Common Grounds cafe will be closed until further notice - BUT donations will still be extremely welcome.   In the meantime, stay healthy and positive.  Common Grounds WILL be back, rest assured.

Project Lunch

The project lunch held on the 4th March was a great success, with 36 people attending and £341.50 being raised - a fantastic result.  The speaker was Euan MacNeish of KidsOR (Operating Room) and the photo show Euan and Gaylor Hoskins (new project co-ordinator) presenting him with our donation of £1000.

Bring and Buy

The Guide Hall was buzzing at our Bring and Buy Coffee Morning on Wednesday 23rd October. The donations of goods to sell and the customers’, some new faces and many of our regulars, generosity knew no bounds. The total raised was £518.05. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this magnificent sum possible.  From second hand items at the Bring and Buy we are now concentrating on new craft items for our stall at the Winter Festive Market/Light up Kinross on Saturday November 23rd. Examples of some of the items for sale can be seen in the photograph. Please pay our stall a visit for unique gifts for those special people in your life.

Project Lunch

The next Project Lunch is on Tuesday 17th September at 12 noon with guest speaker Jo Middlemiss from Ethiopia Medical Project. This is a return visit from Jo to update us on her charity and to tell us about the work they are also doing with patients with Elephantitis.

EASTER RAFFLE UPDATE

Today's Easter raffle raised a fantastic £359!

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this terrific total.
