Healing

Healing In The Name Of Jesus!!!

Imagine the effect that this miraculous event would have on your mind. The view of reality that your sick body was pointing towards would be wiped out. You would be left with thoughts such as: "Maybe I'm not limited by my body. Maybe I'm not trapped by it, or at its mercy. Maybe I'm not a victim of the world and of God." Experiencing your sick body being healed by Spirit—by a miracle—would surely send a message to a deep part of your mind, a message which speaks of a completely different reality. The body healed by a miracle would be a testament to the life beyond the body. It would be a symbol of truth, a sign of salvation.

The body can become a sign of life, a promise of redemption, and a breath of immortality to those grown sick of breathing in the fetid scent of death….Let it receive the power to represent an endless life, forever unattacked.

To my mind, Jesus truly is teaching us in the Course to do the type of healing he did in his lifetime. He makes this very clear statement about his own healing in the scripture...

Matthew 11:5
The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.

Raising the dead is a very physical and concrete manifestation of healing, yet Jesus is saying here that that happened only because of his inner connection with the truth, his ability to see beyond the body. I believe that the healing he did is completely consistent with the Course's teachings on the unreality of the body and of the world, and that in doing this healing we are following in his footsteps.

Biblical

When ever a believer publishes and proclaims the Word of God, signs will follow

"They went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following" [ Mark 16:20].

The scripture says, "the Lord working with them". God works with the believer by providing confirming signs of His Word.

"God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will" [Hebrews].

"It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have"  1 Corinthians 12:11.

Paul told the church at Corinth that he didn't want their faith to rest or stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

"My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God" [ 1 Corinthians 2:4-5].

"For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power" [ 1 Corinthians 4:20].

Laying On Of Hands

There is no doubt that the Bible is filled with accounts of Jesus’ healing miracles. It seems clear as well from the following thee Scriptures that healing is a by-product of the stripes Jesus endured before going to the cross:

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Is. 53:5)

“They brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses’”    (Matt. 8:16-17);

He Himself bore our sins is own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Pet. 2:24).

Furthermore, the Christians in the early church experienced miracles of healing as well. In fact, health and prosperity were objects of prayer for the believers:

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers,” the apostle John wrote in 3 John 1:2.

When we look at the healing ministry of Jesus, we must also recognize the vital connection we have with it: We are His body on earth today (1 Cor. 3:16). Therefore, we must exhibit the same passion for healing that we have observed in Him.
