Machrihanish offshore windfarm

The controversial proposal to site an offshore windfarm off the west side of the Kintyre peninsula near Machrihanish was abandoned in March 2011 after a vigorous campaign headed by the Kintyre Offshore Wind Farm Action Group. This decision was widely reported in the media and to read BBC Scotland's own news story follow this link.

The Campbeltown Sailing Club and many others submitted objections as part of the consultation process on the basis that the location only 2 kilometres from the shore was too close to local communities and Campbeltown airport, it would disrupt recreational sailing and represented a hazard to safe navigation around the Mull.

Anyone requiring more details of the original proposal and the CSC's response should contact the secretary at secretary@cambeltownsc.co.uk.
