Members present staff of Gower Bird Hospital with a cheque for £250

Due to the success of the sale of the Group’s 2010 Calendar, BEG was able to make a generous donation to the Gower Bird Hospital to help it continue its good work in caring for sick and injured wildlife. The idea to help this worthwhile charity came about when a young hedgehog was found crossing a road in Caewern in daylight last autumn. Although it seemed healthy, it was quite small, and it was doubtful whether it would survive hibernation through a long cold winter. After checking with staff at the GBH we were advised to take it along for examination. They thought something was wrong as hedgehogs are not normally seen during daylight hours. It was later discovered that the young hedgehog was indeed unwell, and needed a course of treatment. We are happy to report that it did make a good recovery and was released back into the wild in spring.

Members of Bryncoch Environment Group would like to thank the staff of the Gower Bird Hospital for its hard work and dedication in caring for the wildlife that is brought to the hospital from a wide area. GBH relies on voluntary contributions so we are happy to support them with their work.

The Group would also like to say thanks to everyone who purchased a 2010 BEG Calendar. Look out for our next one for 2011!
