Speedway currently runs three professional oriented Leagues with associated Development leagues for Juniors and those finding their feet in this sport.
Below this is a thriving Amateur & Veteran scene supported by Amateur Clubs such as Dragons Speedway, Southern Track Riders, Lydd Speedway, and several tracks offering regular competition or practice facilities (e.g. Scunthorpe, Leicester, Peterborough, Rye House etc). 
For those wishing to enter the sport, experience the thrill of riding a Speedway bike on track then opportunities are available with 'My First Skid', 'Ride'n Slide' and Iwade where bikes and equipment can be hired.
The pinnacle of the Amateur Racing scene is the British Open Vets Championship held at Lydd each year.

2017 saw the Saints return to track in a head to head with the Oxford Cheetahs at Iwade (Kent) in a 2 match aggregate series which Southampton came out on top 38 - 33.

The 2019 Amateur league will hope to feature predominantly Upright Speedway machines bringing that more traditional impression of speedway with all the spectacle and close racing, often demanded of the spectators.
Modern laydown machines will not necessarily be excluded from competition but other formats exist for that aspect of machinery in competition

The team managed/promoted by Nina Saunders and Richard Hutley hope to also stage a range of 'other' demonstration or challenge matches at tracks around the country subject to rider availability.
Amateur racing is by its nature what it is, riders who fund their own racing, take the risks associated with close competitive Motorsport. Many have a previous racing background within the  sport at various levels ranging from Junior riders in Professional teams up to an including Former World Finalists. Many are the wrong side of 50, but that does not detract from their pace and standard of launching these powerful machines around a speedway track.
