Black Isle Need to Play Association is a local charity offering confidential financial assistance to families with children and young people (aged 0–19) who have additional needs and are experiencing financial hardship. We aim to support the advancement of education and the relief of poverty for children living on the Black Isle, Ross and Cromarty.

What We Fund

We provide financial support in a variety of areas, including:

  • Specialist equipment – e.g. supportive seating, adapted pushchairs, sensory blankets
  • Educational & play resources – e.g. toys, bikes, swings, baking sets, books for home or school
  • Safe play areas – e.g. garden clearance, safe surfacing for indoor or outdoor spaces
  • Childcare & respite – e.g. childminder support for outings or parental respite
  • Transport – e.g. travel with a registered individual to nursery, Puffin Pool, etc.
  • Trips & experiences – e.g. Landmark passes, cinema tickets, school outings

Who Can Apply

Families can now apply for support directly, provided they meet the following criteria:

✅ The child or young person has additional needs

✅ The family is in financial need

✅ The child is aged 0–19 and lives on the Black Isle

Applications must be signed by an NHS or Educational professional who knows your child (e.g. Health Visitor, GP, Teacher, Speech & Language Therapist). This ensures the application is genuine while keeping your identity confidential.

We only ask for your child’s initials, age, and postcode—no personal or identifying details are shared with the committee. All applications are handled with complete confidentiality and reviewed anonymously.

Please Note

We are unable to provide support for services or items already covered by a statutory obligation (e.g. services funded by local authorities or the NHS).
