2021 Show Schedule and Plant Sale

The Schedule for our 2021 Summer Show is now available on our Show Schedule page This lists all the classes that can be entered in the different sections of the Show - Cut Flowers, Pot Plants, Fruit, Vegetables, Food, Crafts, and Photographs. We've also got a Novice class for people who haven't won before, and a new class for Botanical Illustration.

The events the Horticultural Society holds, like shows and plant sales, need to be planned in advance, just like gardening does. There are positive signs in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, but we can’t yet be sure how this will develop over the coming months. Hopefully by August restrictions will be relaxed somewhat, and we’ll be able to hold our Summer Show in something like the usual way.

In May, we usually hold a Plant Sale and Soup Lunch, with a wide range of interesting plants grown by interested gardeners. In 2020 we had to cancel this due to the pandemic. We can’t be sure what the situation will be in May this year, so we’re keeping our options open. We don’t think we’ll be able to hold our usual event, but we’re currently planning to have a plant sale on Saturday 29th May on the grass outside the Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie, and/or a click and collect sale. We’ll make sure we do it in the safest way we can, and in compliance with Scottish Government guidance applicable at the time.

We want people to take part in our Plant Sale, however we hold it, but can you also have a think about whether you might have anything that you can donate?  If you’ve grown more cuttings than you can use, or have spare plants from dividing herbaceous clumps, or you can raise some extra seedlings, or you can pot up any other surplus plants, we’ll make good use of them to help raise funds for the Society. If you’re able to do this, it would be good if you can let us know by email what plants you can donate – to do click and collect, we’ll need to be able to let people know what we have available in advance.

We’ll keep you posted about our plans as they develop, here and on our Facebook page (search for Black Isle Horticultural Society). In the meantime, good luck with your gardening – the weather we’ve had in the last few days has certainly started things moving after the long cold spell, and has encouraged us to get out into the garden.
