Our judge, Andrew Dowsett commented – “Both A & N were technically good and fulfilled the requirement of a close-up but they also showed the setting very well and it wasn’t distracting.
A would benefit from tighter crop but it just had the edge over N. J had the same pictorial lighting as the winner but the area of focus was a little too limited.
Sharpness and distracting backgrounds are generally the aspects you have to control in close up photography and the other entries had a number of minor things that just marked them down from the top 4.”
