What will we do in 2021?

After this strangest of years, we’re thinking about what the Black Isle Horticultural Society might be able to do in 2021. Like gardening itself, holding shows and plant sales need to be planned in advance. Hopefully by August Covid-19 will be under greater control, and we’ll be able to hold our Summer Show in something like the usual way.

In May, we usually hold a Plant Sale, with a wide range of interesting plants grown by interested gardeners. In 2020 we had to cancel this, and we will of course again follow Scottish Government guidance in 2021. We don’t know what the situation will be in May, so we’re keeping our options open. While we’re unlikely to be able to hold our usual event, we might be able to have an outdoor only event, or an online sale. The festive season break is a time when many of us make our garden plans for next year. Can you have a think about whether you might have anything that you can donate to our plant sale?  If you’ve grown more cuttings than you can use, or have spare plants from dividing herbaceous clumps, or you can raise some extra seedlings, or you can pot up any other surplus plants, we’ll make good use of them to help raise funds for the Society.

We’ll keep you posted about our plans as things become clearer in the course of the year. In the meantime, good luck with your gardening – whether that’s sitting indoors making plans or actually getting your hands dirty outdoors in this weather - and let’s keep doing what we can to help ensure that things become easier next year.
