October 2013

After our enforced extra time in Britanny, where we enjoyed some lovely late summer days rather than the rain which we often encounter there, we took a slow drive up to Le Havre, stopping at the old city of Dinan for lunch and spending the afternoon at Mont St. Michel, last visited more than 25 years ago as we usually rush past to our destination. The Mount is timeless, but now linked by a causeway to the 'mainland' with courtesy buses or pony & traps from a Park & Ride, and signs in Japanese and German - rather a shock coming from Britanny where the only translations are from Breton to French... We spent the night at an IBIS hotel and had a final lunch at Le P'tit Bistrot before sailing home to Portsmouth.
Once home we had a lot of catching up to do as we'd only planned a week away. Various Baha'i and One World Week events, Water Aid Annual Supporters Meeting at Tower Bridge Hotel (very impressive gathering of 500 volunteers and project leaders from the countries we work in) a viewing of The Iranian Taboo in Newbury and the annual remembrance service at St. John the Evangelist in Farncombe, where a candle was lit for Mum for the last time...
