OCTOBER 2012

Most of October was spent in Cyprus, where we enjoyed lovely late summer weather, and a couple of thunderstorms which caused green shoots to push through the parched earth, so by the time we left the garden had a green hue already...
Quite a few other 'part-time' Cypriots passed through during our stay, and we hosted a lovely Memorial for our friend Martha, who had a flat in Kyrenia, but sadly passed away so unexpectedly in June. We took part in two other Memorials whilst we were there - our dear friend Mustapha Uludag, at the family home among the pine trees at Bogazkoy on 'Five Finger mountain' and Mr. Housein Mokhles, at his daughter's converted carob store at Tatlisu looking over the sea towards the Turkish mainland. All very special occasions...
The Birth of the Báb took place at the Uludags, and friends from the South travelled up for an 'all-island' event, enjoying the house and land which has witnessed so many special gatherings over the years.
We arrived back to a very cold and autumnal England in time to take part in a number of One World Week activities, including our own at Godalming Pepperpot, and a lovely programme hosted by Godalming Unitarians and dedicated to The Charter for Compassion, to which we both contributed Bahá'í Readings. Then we adjourned to an Italian restaurant for a reunion lunch for those of us who had taken the '12 Steps to a Compassionate Life' course, before going to the Parish Church for their 'All Souls' Memorial Service for people who have passed on recently, the vicar having assisted at Mum's funeral 2 years ago and subsequently 'adopting' her. So lots of hymn-singing that day, and catching up with past acquaintances
