AUGUST 2012

We promised ourselves a quiet August after quite a hectic year, and by and large we managed this, spending a bit of time on the Farncombe house and garden and having the roof re-insulated - free as we're officially Pensioners now! Replacing our old sofas, which have seen so many meetings and gatherings over more than 30 years, with G-Plan leather, and many trips to Recycling Centres and Charity Shops...
We didn't find the stamina to attend any of the Olympic events, though a lot of our friends did, but watched many hours of BBC coverage and got caught up in the excitement along with the rest of the country. It's been a wonderful year to be in the U.K. - a 'Happy & Glorious' summer as one commentator described it - despite the economic gloom...
We also managed to catch up with a lot of 'English' friends, going to a big Bahá'í picnic, attending a Buddhist wedding, and a Summer Mela at the Shah Jehan Mosque in Woking, before going off to a fabulous Summer School in the Welsh Valleys, near Port Talbot...
