June 2012

June began as a leisurely month, with Bibhas still in Cyprus caught up with the life of the community there including a variety of cross-border activities and initiatives, whilst Carolyn picked up on events and commitments in the U.K. Also enjoying a day in Windsor & Eton, with Chandra, a day in Cambridge with Leo & Janis Zrudlo, former Cyprus residents, and other friends, and a long week-end soaking up the Diamond Jubilee events.
On June 12th we were shocked to learn that a dear friend, Martha Hall-Patch, had died in her sleep, and so Bibhas came home for the funeral. As well as being part of the Surrey Bahá'í community for more than 30 years Martha had an appartment in Kyrenia, and we'd assumed, like each of her many friends, that we'd all grow old together; we all feel cheated that our time with this beautiful and gracious lady was cut short...
On 21st June we were priviledged to attend the launch of the Dan Eley Foundation, set up by our young friend to help provide employment and training to marginalised young people in South America. www.daneleyfoundation.org
Dan was later to carry the Olympic torch through Godalming High Street, to the Pepperpot, and as we drove to the West Surrey Golf Club for the Launch, vans were out putting up sturdy flags ready for this Event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26iy0xlfSQ4&feature=share
The end of the month sees us back in Britanny, attending the SEEFF Conference along the way leaving Robindra to settle into his new job - which saw him sitting in on a meeting at the House of Commons on his first afternoon, and Chandra tackling some 'back-to-work' initiatives.
