December 2013 - January 2014

December was a mixed month. Bibhas spent the first three weeks in Cyprus, visiting friends around the North and attending a wonderful meeting in the Bahá'í Centre in the South, where May Faizi-Moore spoke about her Father, Abol-Qasim Faizi, who she has just completed a book about, and the Hands of the Cause of God, their history, roles and responsibilities. Coincidentally May's husband Peter's book 'Days we Have Seen' about their lives as refugees in 1974 was published in Greek and an article appeared in the Cyprus Times on the day of May's talk, with an exhibition of his photos taking place in Limassol.
Carolyn meanwhile coughed her way through the month, only going to day-time activities - including a visit to the Royal Albert Hall to collect money for Water Aid's Big Pipe Project during an excellent performance of Handel's Messiah by school-children - with some professional soloists - and a pre-birthday lunch in Leicester Square with school-friends. Also a nice pre-Christmas lunch at Da Genaros in Guildford with Phyllis Tuckwell colleagues, so much better than clearing out the stock room for a party as in previous years...
A couple of days after Bibhas' return we travelled to Wales for the beautiful funeral of a dear Bahá'í friend, Rita, stopping on the way at Dad's family grave as he and his twin sister Blanche would have been 100 on Christmas Eve. It was a beautiful day in Abingdon but as we left the storms began which were to last throughout the Christmas break.
Our Unitarian friends were badly affected by the rising waters...
Following 3 days of power cuts, blown-down fences and erratic meals we treated ourselves to a day at the annual Persian 'Arts & Letters' Conference where we heard a talk by Mr. Nakhjavani, and a Memorial to Mr. Fathe'Azam, both former members of the Universal House of Justice, and rounded off the year with a lovely Unity Feast with some of the Guildford Bahá'is...
2014 started off quietly, with various local activites, and a nice day in London where we met up with Bibhas' long-time friend, and brother-in-law by marriage, Hirak, including lunch at the Institute of Structural Engineers, of which he is the North Asia President, before Bibhas was struck down with a seasonal virus...
On in Guildford. Hope the floods are starting to
disappear by now. Sue.
