My tuppenceworth re. use of colour at The Ness….
“Picture it.....Ness of Brodgar.....Mid-summer's Eve around 3,000 B.C. A group of work-men and artists have toiled all night putting the finishing touches to the building which is destined to be 'The Orkney Twilight Home for Bewildered Shamen.'
Just as dawn breaks, a clear shaft of light streams down the entrance passageway, illuminating the brightly coloured wall carvings and paintings which the workmen have prepared for the delectation of the 'Old Dears'. One workman turns to the other and says.......’Cor, blimey, would ya' look at that?!!! Would ya' Adam & Eve it? Straight down the corridor, lights the place up something lovely, just as though we'd planned it or something! Wait 'til I tell me missus about it, she'll have to come and see this.’
Esoteric knowledge? Nahhh, pure chance. I don't know why the workman is a cockney - but folk did come from a long way to visit the Ness as it was known, nation-wide, as the best facility for Bewildered Shamen in the country!”

’I, Robot’…….
We recently watched ‘I Robot’…..again. I’d forgotten how good the film is, which reminded me of how good the book is, and how good Isaac Asimov’s writing is….

“From ‘Freedom From Torture’….
"40 years ago, our founders laid the groundwork for Freedom from Torture. They refused to be silent. They committed to fighting for an end to torture. They stood in solidarity with survivors – empowering them to rebuild their lives.
This September we are asking you to stand alongside survivors by taking part in our 40-day solidarity challenge. It runs from 1st September to 10th October and by taking part you’ll help raise vital funds for survivors of torture. 40 years on, our services have never been needed more.
There are so many ways you can get involved:
• 40 acts of kindness
• 40 days of yoga
• Set up a Facebook fundraiser and get 40 friends to donate
• Walk 10,000 steps or a specific distance every day for 40 days
• Craft 40 things (knitting, crochet etc.)
• A sponsored walk or cycle to 40 places of interest or walk 40 times around your local park.
• Walk or run 40 miles throughout September. You could even do a relay with friends or do a bigger distance.
• Swim 40 lengths
• Or do anything you like!
You can take on the challenge on your own, with your family, or in a group! Anything, big or small is welcome.
As a special gift for taking part, we’ll send you a Freedom from Torture t-shirt. If you raise £100 or more we will also send you a limited edition 40th anniversary pin badge that you can wear with pride. And those who raise £300 will receive a further special gift.
As we hit this special milestone, we’ve shown together, we can be a powerful force for change. For 40 years we have provided vital services for survivors and with the money you raise through your challenge we can continue to reach and empower more survivors, apply pressure to those in authority and demonstrate that until torture stops, neither will WE.
That’s why we’d love to see you join the challenge. Let’s show survivors that 40 years on we can continue to stand with them.
