Hips & Fungi…..Spurness x 2…..

by Bernie Bell - 09:01 on 12 August 2025

Hips & Fungi…..

In the summer, a delicate rose in our hedge flowered for the first time….

We don't know what variety it is, but it's a beauty.

Now, the hips are ripening – small, round, dark reddish/purple …

Also in the hedge, the Rosa Rugosa hips are ripening too - big, red and blowsy…..

Food for the birds through the months ahead.

In the field over the hedge – first fungi this year…

The year moves on......

PS

Mike's just found what the mystery rose is likely to be...

They came to be in our hedge because we bought them from Orkney Zero-waste….

….. planted them, and waited to see what would happen!
