From Kilmorack Gallery…..
Kirstie Cohen | Jane MacNeill | Ann Oram
27th June - 25th July
We are excited to share with you work by three of our most sought-after artists - Kirstie Cohen, Jane MacNeill and Ann Oram - in exhibitions which open on Friday 27th June. Work is available with it goes live on our website.
KIRSTIE COHEN
New Work
27 June - 25 July
In a Kirstie Cohen painting, sun reflects on clouds and sea, bringing light to shadow, and Cohen does this with a rich depth that few artists achieve. These latest nine works show a dynamic natural world where the weather restlessly moves on. Here in this collection, it feels, that light is coming rather than leaving.

JANE MACNEILL
New Work
27 June - 25 July
In this collection, MacNeill's inspiration comes from Cairngorms where she grew up, and the water as well as their rounded mountains. Water, she suggests, gives a depth and suggests possibilities and mysteries.
"These are paintings about some of the watery places in amongst the Cairngorm Mountains, those ancient and rounded hills which seem to embrace in their valleys a rich variety of meadow and moor, fields of bog cotton and scented myrtle, forests of pine, birch, aspen and ancient oak, and an abundance of water.
When water is introduced to a landscape, a new dimension can open. Water invites interaction with the land. It promises a depth which can suggest many possibilities both physical and imagined, or even spiritual. Water represents a mystery which can be entered."

ANN ORAM
New Work
27 June - 25 July
We are pleased to share with you Ann Oram's latest still life paintings. The words 'still life' doesn't do them justice. Oram spends hours setting the stage: gathering fabrics and objects; arranging colours and elements; understanding the vitality of the flowers; until the set becomes exciting enough for her to paint. And then a lifetime of paint handling come into play.
It is this joy, and exploration of colour and paint that have made Oram a leading inheritor of the Scottish Colourist tradition.

From ‘Freedom From Torture’….
"Imagine finally finding safety in the UK, but never been able to become a citizen. This government has effectively made that a reality for thousands of people fleeing war, torture and persecution.
This Refugee Week, lived experienced campaigners from One Strong Voice took their powerful message about the government's cruel citizenship ban to the streets.
One Strong Voice members highlight the impact of the citizenship ban.

Sunshine in the garden
On the first weekend of June we opened our Sanctuary Garden and bread oven for over 350 visitors as part of London Open Gardens - a city-wide event that sees hidden green spaces open up for the public.
Visitors enjoyed the flowers in full bloom, learnt about the origins of the garden and it’s benefits as a therapeutic space. If you weren’t able to make the event, Wendy’s article explains how horticultural therapy help survivors rebuild their lives after torture.

Women, life, freedom
In May, ex-client Nasrin appeared on In Solidarity Podcast. On the episode she shares how fighting for women’s rights led to her arrest by the Iranian regime.
Defending refugee protections
Our CEO, Sonya Sceats, penned a piece to explain why Labour must not succumb to divisive us-versus-them politics. She explain the importance of defending refugee rights and advocates for a fair and effective asylum process that gets decisions “right first time”, allowing survivors to recover in safety and rebuild their lives in strong and united communities.
