Remembering Biology Lessons……From ‘Friends of the Earth’…..

Remembering Biology Lessons……

Tuesday morning, we were watching a Red Admiral on the Cotoneaster in front of the house....

We could see it using its proboscis to feed on the flowers....

And I could hear my Biology teacher saying ‘Probooooooscis’.  She had her own way of pronouncing a lot of biological terms…..’Osmooosis, Phoootosynthesis, Paaaaarthenogenesis'.

It was a Convent school and our sex education consisted of a plastic model of the Urinogenital System of a rabbit, including reference to the ‘Vaaaaaas Deferens’.

Before that particular lesson, she warned us.…’I’ll have no sniggerin’.  Any girl that sniggers will leave the room.’  And thereby miss invaluable information for when we became good Catholic wives and mothers!

From ‘Friends of the Earth’…..

“Our seas and oceans are being choked by our plastic pollution. Fragile marine ecosystems that have been stable for thousands of years are now at risk of collapse.

Let's be honest – avoiding plastic completely is pretty much impossible. But more and more people are cutting down on the amount of plastic they use. There are some clever ideas out there, and we've collected them together all under one roof.

These tips will help you avoid household plastics that can end up in our seas - harming our dolphins, turtles and other wildlife too.

And they'll enhance your life: saving you cash, replacing aggressive chemicals and giving you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

From the bathroom to the garden, there are loads of plastic alternatives. Read on to unlock our plastic-free secrets…..

I’ll be back soon with more ideas for how you can support nature and tackle climate breakdown while staying at home.
