Silver Linings..….New Galleries…..

Silver Linings….

For the last few years our compost bins have been neglected as we weren’t able to manage everything in the veg patch.

Good weather and better health meant that Mike has had a go at the compost bins, and emptied them completely.

He put the roughest stuff on the general garden rubbish heap on this year’s fallow patch, and that will go back in the compost bins when they’ve been repaired….

He then spread  the material that had become compost, on this year’s tattie patch and dug it in before planting the tatties – it’s lovely rich stuff!....

BUT …what he found right at the bottom of the bins is some lovely crumbly potting compost  - just when we were going to go and buy some…..

He sieved it and bagged it up – two bags full!

And we’re thinking……. ‘Evey cloud has a silver lining’.

I'm now all agog to see the new ones!   A visit to town when there isn’t a Liner in, then lunch in Lucano’s – what a place to live!

There’s another post by Martin Carruthers - Director of the dig at The Cairns, which will be happening soon! ……

“Amazing 'Northern Spiral' Iron Age bead (a 'Guido Class 13' to give it its Sunday Name!) excavated at Mine Howe, East Mainland, Orkney, on display in the new Iron Age gallery, Orkney Museum, and a pic of the same glass bead from behind the scenes access I was lucky to have a few weeks ago.”
