‘The Totality For Kids’…….. Mysteries of Pre-historic Scotland…..
Being ill like this is a full time job, and I’ve never liked having a full time job, nor really ever wanted to have a full time job. I have a lot to get on with, and a full time job gets in the way of what I always thought of as my career as a writer and performer.
Mind, I’ve only ever had two full-time jobs, and I loved them both - working for Quinto Books on the Charing Cross Road, 2000-2002, and for Arvon as a Centre Director, 2002 - 2006. Anyhoo, nevertheless, the point I’m making is that I’m not enjoying my current full-time job, viz. that of invalidism. I’m hoping to go part-time, work a bit from home, and then eventually retire all together. Another week of proceedures beckons.
But, as I always say, fuck it. I have a career to get on with. Royalties tick in, always welcome. Performance stuff had a good week (watch this space, but not for ages yet though). and the new book, The Breaking Wave, rattles along. Yesterday and then again today, the band are in imaginary rehearsal. I’m trying to write enough about band rehearsals to give a favour of what it’s like, without over-doing it.
One of my USP’s with this project is that although the band is imaginary or semi-hemi-demi autobiographical, the music they play is real, in that I sung these songs that the Breaking Wave play, and co-wrote or co-arranged them , a long time ago.
I’ve been listening to this stuff over the last couple of days, trying to work out which character is playing what. I have a sort of master soundcloud playlist called, as you may have guessed, The Totality for Kids, for reasons you can read about in A Hero For High Times. All the songs I’m using as the set-list for the fictional upcoming imaginary gig are to be found here.
I’ve tried to do some writing on it too, but this bloody stupid full-time job stops me getting on with side projects. Still, if you’re interested, this is a link to The Totality for Kids, the sixty songs I’m using in the book (in brand new imaginary arrangements, obviously.)

Mysteries of Pre-historic Scotland…..
And I quote….
“There’s a veritable cornucopia of institute faces in a 2022 documentary series on prehistoric Scotland, now available to view online.”
