Civil War……
Friend Ian has Cancer, and is undergoing various treatments. He’s a chatty sort and likes to talk with the nurses who have come to play quite a large part in his life.
A recent conversion with the nurses prompted some strong thoughts, and some connections being made. Best if I simply copy over our exchange…
Ian….
“This week, I've been treated by two fairly newly qualified nurses, both right at the top of their game. The District nurse came on Friday, took my bloods, and changed my nephrostomy dressings - changed them so well, that they've felt really secure and I've found it much easier to sleep. She's not quite a year graduated from Cardiff School of Nursing.
Today, the chemo nurses were struggling to cannulate me, as per, Step up an early thirties (if not younger) ward sister, the 'go to' nurse for cannulation in chemo, apparently. She was talking about graduating from Cardiff, and how proud she was to get in.
Growth growth growth = cancer. Talking with Trump = moral death, as he is a nazi. Train the fucking nurses. Bring back bursaries. What the fuck has gone wrong with the world? And what are we going to do?
Cardiff: University confirms plans to cut 400 jobs
Vice-chancellor Wendy Larner says "it is no longer an option for us to continue as we are".
Me….
“Keep on trying to make people pay attention to what's happening around them - that's one thing - about the only thing I can do, being manky - but - DO WHAT WE CAN is the thing.
I just thought - and I hope this doesn't come across as unfeeling. I've said elsewhere that growth is what got us in the pickle we're in. Here, you write 'Growth growth growth = cancer." And ...exactly Ian.... egggg-zactly. Growth = Cancer = Civil War. Fighting within a body or a 'body Politic'. Take it away Ian......”
I say ‘Take it away Ian’ because he’s a writer and, if he chooses to take up this idea, could write of it in his own unique way, with the voice of experience.
