‘No Fun’……Life On Earth…..

‘No Fun’……Life On Earth…..

“After yesterday’s reading of what I have so far, I reckon I’m heading towards halfway through a first draft.

It’s tempting to start rewriting, and putting things onto the computer. When that completed first draft is completed, and rewritten almost entirely onto my computer, I reckon I’ll have a solid second draft to work on. There are a growing number of bits up on the computer, naughty really when I haven’t finished the first draft, but it’s always a temptation to fiddle about. I came to, and looked forward to today’s sessions, one way or another, longhand or typing.

Got a call from the acute oncology nurse at 11am. Last week’s scan showed a bloodclot on my lung. Could I come into the Macmillan Renton Unit for three, because they needed to prescribe a higher level of blood thinner than the one I’m on?

It’s the kind you have to inject into your stomach, twice a day for the forseeable future. I’ve had it before, the last time I had chemo, early in 2021, but also more recently when my nephrostomy bags were being fitted. My GP said that oncologists regard pulmonary embolisms as collateral damage. When I told my current oncologist this, he laughed, and admitted it was, to some extent, true.

So here I am, 22.00, home and fed, stomach duly jabbed, but exhausted beyond anything. No writing sessions at all today. I have to find a way to keep going - the Breaking Wave book gives me a direction of travel, but all the shit that keeps happening stops the bus leaving the depot, as it were.

The soundtrack, though, is an easy pick. If you know of a more catastrophic and, well, iconic split up gig captured on film, please write in.

And my comment was….

“Main thing I want to say is….. keep going Ian – and you will as long as poss - dogged as does it.

I’m full of admiration for your attitude and have even less patience with whingers.

Mike had to inject stuff into his stomach for some months one time for similar reasons – it’s one of those things that folk might read and wince a bit, but the actuality is a bugger – pincushion tummy which is sooooore.  But you know that.

When I saw the title, I thought of Iggy’s version - …
