From Oxfam…….
“The gap between the super-rich and the rest of us is out of control. As ultra-wealthy business leaders and global politicians gather once more for the World Economic Forum in Davos, I have some mind-boggling numbers to share with you.
Global billionaire wealth grew by $2 trillion in 2024, three times faster than the year before. Meanwhile, the number of people still living in poverty – around 3.5 billion – has barely changed since 1990.
The thing is, we don’t have to accept a system that values billionaire profits above people and the planet. Things can change, and it starts with making those at the top pay their fair share.
If you’re angry about all this too, then help us get the message out there by sharing this graphic on your social media or forwarding this email to someone you think might also be interested. It only takes a minute and makes a difference.
Share the graphic on:
The global economic system is broken. It enables and perpetuates this accumulation of wealth in the hands of the few, while nearly half of humanity continues to live in poverty.
You might be surprised to know that most billionaire wealth is taken, not earned – 60% comes from inheritance, monopoly power or crony connections. Many of the super-rich owe some of their wealth to historical colonialism and the exploitation of poorer countries.
Takers Not Makers is the name of Oxfam’s new report released today, and you can read more here. We’re calling for bold solutions to radically reduce inequality and hardwire fairness into our economies. Please help us spread the word – and keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more ways you can help.
Thank you for fighting for a fairer future.
Alicia,
Head of Campaign Engagement”

An Interview with Paul Salopek
This week, we return to an interview from Volume 5: Time with journalist Paul Salopek, who, for the last decade, has been on an epic journey retracing the migration pathway of some of the earliest humans out of Africa’s Rift Valley. Moving through the world as our ancestors did, Paul shares how he’s become attuned to the way time passes through us and around us: from the ancient pulse of the Earth underfoot, to the fury of mechanized time that rampages through our urban centers. Throughout, he shares profound experiences of timelessness, which he dubs “sacramental time,” that bring together mind, body, and landscape in conversation.”
