Today Iceland has granted licences to slaughter 201 fin whales and 217 minke whales over the next five years. This heartless and corrupt decision, made by a caretaker prime minister without a mandate, betrays the whales, the people of Iceland, and global conservation efforts.
Thanks to supporters like you donating to our emergency appeal we have been working tirelessly with other NGOs to fight back against this temporary government’s corrupt wish to approve these licences.
Just last year, Iceland showed strong intention to end whaling by suspending the cruel practice due to horrific animal welfare violations. Now, those hopes are shattered.
This isn’t about sustainability or tradition, it’s about greed and corruption, favouring private interests over public good and ethics.
Whales don’t belong to Iceland or any nation, they are vital to our oceans and climate. We must stand together to stop this madness.
