Coming Up To Christmas In Kirkwall…… A Big Subject…..

Coming Up To Christmas In Kirkwall……

These days it’s hard to find somewhere to have lunch in Stromness, so after our visit to the Pier Arts Centre Christmas Exhibition, we drove to Kirkwall.

Trouble is – folk want to go into town - Stromness or Kirkwall -  to do their Christmas shopping and have lunch – make a day of it.  If they can’t get lunch in Stromness, they might just go to Kirkwall, and the Stromness shops might be missing out on the Christmas trade – which would be a shame as there are a lot of good  shops in Stromness too.

We had lunch at Judith Glue’s, which was yummy as always,  and they have such pleasing table-ware…….

Then, tummy’s full, we crossed the road and sat in St. Magnus Cathedral  - just communing quietly and being  thankful.

I admired  the golden Annular, which I’ve photographed before….

 …but couldn’t resist photographing again….

Also – the nativity scene which is simple, but appealing……

We called by Re-start Orkney ….

And were pleased to find a Ted Hughes book of poetry which we didn’t have, and a Johnny Winter C.D. which we didn’t have.

No need to buy new – have a look in  Re-start Orkney!

Walking back to the car – a bit of Gutter-art…

The Christmas lights were on in Kirkwall,  Finstown, and many of the houses along the way home – Waes hael!

A Big Subject…..

Which Steve Drury covers well….
