Down the hill to Hinderayre…… From Orkney.com ….

by Bernie Bell - 08:44 on 04 December 2024

Down the hill to Hinderayre……

As I walk down the hill to Hinderayre,

Fields a soft green in the failing light,

Sloping gently to sea in east and south,

A shroud of rain over Kirkwall across the water,

I am aware, just for a moment.

I stop, and know myself a tiny figure

Cupped in the immensity,

Infinite and contained.

Not like.  Not as if.

No seeming.

I am, here and now.

Giving thanks for this point

And this moment in time.

More than kinship,

Infinite and contained.

Neurons fire, my cerebellum lights up,

But I am not fooled by mechanism.

Here I stand, fully conscious in the moment,

My ego’s shield down,

Infinite and contained.

Can you feel it?

Does the meaning escape

The boundaries of these words?

Let them be

Infinite and contained.
