My Personal Ness of Brodgar ‘Calendar’…

Having seen the Orkney Archaeology Society calendar for 2025 in the on-line shop….

https://shop.orkneyarchaeologysociety.org.uk/

……I thought I’d go back through my photo folders and present a kind-of calendar of my own.

As 2024 was the last year for the dig at the Ness of Brodgar, I’m going to present 12 images from the Ness – going through the time of the dig.

January…

The dig  has un-earthed many examples of ceramics.  The first photo I ever took at the Ness was of this piece of pottery, discovered at the dig in 2009.  Site Director Nick Card was showing us the finds and it caught my eye – I liked the shapes, and that it showed real craftsmanship.

February…

2010…could be…anytime…

March…

2012 – the view from the viewing platform…

April…

2014 – I wondered if the big stone centre/right was a Standing Stone?

May…

2018 – TRENCH  T!!!  At close of play – still a mystery…

June…

2019 – Overview - with Guardian….
