Remembrance of Brochtobers Past…..
I’m reliably informed that there won’t be a Broctoberfest this year so, to keep The Cairns and brochs in general in public awareness, I thought I’d put together some memories of Broctoberfests past……

From ‘Hillside’ Animal Sanctuary….
“RSPCA 'Farm Assured' Scheme Not 'Reassuring'
We see that Sir Brian May has quit as Vice- President of the RSPCA over the horrendous treatment of animals in the Society's 'Farm Assured' scheme (previously Freedom Food). Also President, Chris Packham has called the charity into account regarding their long-time failing scheme after other organisations' recent investigations have confirmed Hillside's previous findings.
We are pleased that people who can make a difference are now taking notice of the suffering that 'Freedom Food/Farm Assured' animals have endured over the decades.
Although we have carried out many more investigations since, showing further failings, long-term supporters may remember our full report in 2011 of our findings up to that time on the then called Freedom Food farms and the letter that we sent to Mark Watts, then CEO of the Society.
We can only hope that now Sir Brian May and Chris Packham have spoken out, the RSPCA will rethink what they consider to be good farm animal welfare."
Here’s an idea for Christmas ‘presents’…..
