Archaeology Is About People…

…and people don’t change much….

“The Long Barrow at All Cannings

Ok not exactly ancient but a really great place and a really great idea.

Built in 2014 to be used as a columbarium, which of all the niches are already reserved, so must be a call for this sort of thing., and with several others being built around the country. It is also a place of worship and open to the public at certain times of the year, including the Autumn Equinox tomorrow.

"The Long Barrow at All Cannings is a spiritual place where people of any or no faith can come to remember and give thanks, especially for the lives of their loved ones" – excerpt taken from their own website.

I saw a few years back a really great video showing the inside before the first urns had been deposited, it looks really good and also a great interview with Tim Draw the brains behind the conception.”

Plus…..

Kenny Brophy was good enough to send me a link to a most excellent article by himself and Andrew Watson which was published in ‘British Archaeology’ magazine about the ’new’ barrows.

It looks like I might breach copyright if I posted Kenny’s link here, but I did find this.….

My response to Kenny was to quote Marc Bolan…’Life’s a GAS’!

And – The Ness…

I’ll keep posting about The Ness, as long as there are things to post about!....
