Herstmonceux Observatory….
Here is volunteer Ian Whitely, giving a short explanation of the situation at the Observatory. Please give him your attention and if you can, in any way, take action to help to keep this significant site open….

I see it as being just right as an acquisition for The National Trust - have written to them and made that suggestion.
I’ve written to anyone I can think of who might be interested – as I’m sure many others have done too.
Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

From Orkney.com ……….
“Images from an Orkney summer
It hasn't been a traditional summer here in Orkney, but then it rarely is. There have been relatively few days of blue skies and bright sunshine, with moody skies and breezy conditions dominating weather forecasts over the last few months. But, as always, pockets of perfect light and becalmed seas offered opportunities to get out and about with the camera. Now, as we've reached the end of the meterological summer, with autumn just around the corner, let's take a look back at some of our favourite images from the season.
Curtain ready to raise on Science Festival
Guest speakers and workshop hosts are preparing to head north for the 2024 Orkney International Science Festival. The week-long event features its usual mix of talks, walks, and workshops, with attendees also getting the chance to sample a taste of Orkney and take in some exhibitions and concerts too. It all gets underway on 5th September, with the full programme available to view online. We’ve picked out some of our festival highlights ahead of the opening day.
Saying Goodbye To The Ness of Brodgar
After 20 years, excavation work at Orkney’s Ness of Brodgar has come to a close. Over the last two decades, this sprawling dig in the heart of Orkney’s World Heritage Site has become one of the most important archaeological projects in the world and has changed the way we think about Neolithic Orkney. Before the 2024 dig began, it was decided that this summer season would be the last on site, with work reaching a logical stopping point. Now, the Ness of Brodgar dig will be filled in with earth and returned to the green field it used to be, in hibernation once more. Watch our short film and visit the Ness of Brodgar website to keep up-to-date with developments.
