A New Writer!.....Orkney Industrial Heritage…..The Eagle Cairn……

A New Writer!.....

I’m always looking for new books to read - even better – by new authors – Philip Pullman’s ‘Dark Materials‘ trilogy was a gift.

I came across a reference to a writer who is new to me -  Tiffani Angus.  She’s had stories published in anthologies and in the two writing guides which she’s co-written, but has only had one full novel published so far. It’s called Threading the Labyrinth - I Googled  it and the description of an historical fantasy about 400 years in a haunted garden appealed to me - brought to mind Oscar Wilde’s ‘Canterville Ghost’ which I like for his understanding of the shifts between life and death….

This got me thinking of some of what I’ve written along those lines, and here they are – the difference is – they’re not fantasy….

We’ve ordered the book, and it’ll be next in my reading pile.

We’ve never been to Eday – but we have been to North Ronaldsay….

The Eagle Cairn….

I read in ‘The Orcadian’ that the Tomb of the Eagles might, just might, possibly be re-opening if a community buy-out can be managed.

Mike and I have long had a very strong interest in and affection for what we refer to as The Eagle Cairn.  I’ve written about it quite a few times…

So I emailed Steve Sankey, using the address provided in the ‘Orcadian’ article…..  stevesankey55@gmail.com to say that if there’s some way we can contribute to the Cairn being  re-opened, and to helping to keep it going when it opens, we’d like to do so.  Maybe by donating or becoming ‘Friends of’, and asking him to let us know  what the possibilities might be.

I’m posting this here, for if anyone else might like to get involved?
