Pre-history In The Stromness Museum –
Not quite as far back in time as Geology and Palaeontology, but also upstairs - a cabinet in a quiet corner holds some very interesting objects….
I’ll quote from the labels…
“Pottery urn containing human bone from a mound at Upper Lyking, Sandwick. It was opened in the presence of office bearers of the Orkney Natural History Society in 1838.”….
“Stone ring from a grave in Stenness."…..
“Polished bone pin with human head. Period unknown, Bay of Skaill, Sandwick.”……
In a cabinet by the front door of the Museum…’Buddo’ – plus assorted bits & pieces from Skara Brae…
I wonder was the pin with a human head carved on it, also from Skara Brae?
More About Stones….
Co-incidentally with my mention of how the micro-investigation of rocks helped to place the source of the Stonehenge Altar Stone – I received a piece from Steve Drury about this major discovery…

AND……
Travis does it again!...
Though the dig at The Ness is no longer open to the public, final sorting and clearing is still going on there…as described in Sigurd’s blog..

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again ….The Ness – just keeps on giving…
