When Art Marries Science…

On the Facebook page of the Herstmonceux Observatory Supporters Group is an image of a cut-away of Dome D at the Obs.  produced by photographer John Fox…..

....who then provides a link to further wonders…and I quote…

“You should see the video version if you think this is good! If you go to the Wealden Astronomers website www.wealdenastronomers.org and look for the section titled "Astrophotography Videos" and play the first two videos. Put your headphones on and soak up the atmosphere of both the castle and the OSC at night, courtesy of the magic of timelapse photography. Enjoy. “

Readers of m’blog could sign up for the 2024 Astronomy Festival and Stargazing Evenings….here’s the info. from the Obs…

“Sharing our concerns about for the future of the observatory site is one way to help keep it in the public eye and fight for the site's continued survival and public access. Another, very effective way is to support the Observatory Science Centre's amazing programme of activities.

2024 Astronomy Festival (30 Aug to 1 Sept)

Stargazing in the domes, seeing the stars and planets through these world-famous RGO telescopes. Talks from leading UK astronomers and astrophysicists, camping on the lawn in front of the domes, astronomy society stalls, a burger van and a pub quiz!

Stargazing Evenings

The observatory is open for stargazing roughly twice a month, beginning in September with the festival. Three historic telescopes and one modern scope available to show you the stars and planets (weather permitting). But numbers are limited (9 Aug event is already full), so book early.

 "Sign up for whisky school

If you’re planning a visit to Orkney, you might be tempted to sample a dram or two at our local distilleries. But now a special set of new experiences on offer at the Orkney Distillery will give you the chance to actually craft your own whisky and learn some of the tricks of the trade on the way. The distillery, known for its award-winning Kirkjuvagr Gin range, is in the midst of maturing its first single malt whisky and, as production really begins to increase, members of the public can sign up for whisky school and join the talented team behind the scenes.
