I was thinking - I haven’t really got a grip on the fact that we no longer have a Conservative Government in Britain – we have a Labour Government – which might be a far cry from what a Labour Government would have been at one time, but they’re not Tory and, for now, that’ll do for me.
We should give Keir Starmer some time before expecting him to take up the reins of state. He & Mrs Starmer will be busy disinfecting 10 Downing Street after Boris and his goings-on. Imagine having to live in a house that Boris lived in? You’d want a new bed for a start.
They’ve got 14 years of Tory slime to clear away.
Cleaning
14 years of Tory slime
14 years of Tory grime
Layer upon layer
Of Self-interest
Avarice
And dodgy dealing
That’ll take - some cleaning.

It Can Be Done…

…and I thought – the Thames and the Tyne were that bad at one time.
As part of my Geography A ‘Level’ course I went on a field trip to Newcastle which included a boat trip on the Tyne – this was in the early 70’s – I noticed that there were things floating on the water, that shouldn’t have floated - they should have sunk. The water was so thick that they floated. It was very dark and smelt bad.
The Thames and the Tyne were poisonous, for a time. They got better - I wouldn’t want to drink the water, but things were/are living in them again.
Then, a different kind of pollution became more of a problem - less a straight-forward industrial pollution - more agricultural, though including some from farming ‘industries’, such an intensive chicken rearing. Not only in the cities but in the country-side too.
Now, hopefully the new Government will clamp down on the polluters, and the city and country rivers will get cleaned up again.
A general theme of cleaning up is developing - I'm thinking of 'The Scouring of the Shire' - 'Lord of the Rings' reference.
