The Cairns….
Yesterday was the last day of the dig at The Cairns, South Ronaldsay, for this year and ORCA Project Officer Kevin Kerr has put together an over-view of what has been discovered….

We didn’t get to visit the site this year, due to Mike’s ankle injury - so – we’re looking to next year, and more fine things being found!

From ‘Free Tibet’…..
“Whenever you see reports of China being the biggest polluter of carbon emissions, or the self-proclaimed leading country of “green development”, we must ask:
What does it mean for Tibetans who still live under the Chinese occupation?
What were the ways, and how many times did the Tibetans resist against fossil fuel industries that extracted their sacred mountains, salt and freshwater lakes, rivers and forests?
How did the Chinese military protect these industries, allowing carbon emissions to sky-rocket, whilst generations of Tibetans were ordered to be loyal, to realise the benevolence of the Chinese government, to memorise the eulogies to the Communist leaders?
And does “green development” even fully capture the Tibetan understanding of ecology: the essence of vitality, the life-giving, life-regenerating force of nature, deities and other realms of beings, which isn’t just green - and much less so even one colour?
How can "green" be the indicator of positive change when the Tibetan plateau is becoming green as its frozen soil, its permafrost, is thawing, releasing thousands of tons of methane every year?
As each summer arrives hotter than the last, engulfing us in unpredictable and extreme floods, wildfires and heatwaves, in Tibet too, the Chinese government intensifies their claims of “green development”. But every time the Chinese government tries to silence Tibetan voices in times of climate crisis, my people resist them with equal force and dignity.
