Pier Arts Centre Exhibitions….

There are presently two temporary exhibitions at the Pier Arts Centre, consisting of work by Orkney’s recent Art Graduates and pupils from Stromness Academy and Kirkwall Grammer school.

It was a soggy day – too wet for gardening, which is our present priority - so we decided to go and have a look as a previous, similar exhibition was very varied in subject matter and forms of expression…….

The following is a purely personal selection of the pieces which particularly caught my eye.

The Ground Floor exhibition is ’Perspectives’ – being work by Orkney’s recent Art Graduates...

The first to catch my eye was an installation  by Wendy Barker UHI Orkney BA (Hons) Fine Art entitled ‘Moonlight’ expressing various interpretations of moonlight and water…..

Walking through the doorway you can see in these images, brings you to 'Untitled' by Janine Smith UHI Orkney BA ( Hons) Fine Art…

The next piece stopped me in my tracks…

It reads ‘NOW I AM BECOME DEATH THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS’.  A timely reminder of the danger of Oppenheimer’s deadly toy….

The next image isn’t part of the exhibition - I just like the shapes and thought it fitted with some of what I’d just seen….

To the First Floor and ‘Showcase’ - being the work of Orkney Schools’ Senior Pupils...

Isla Craigie - Kirkwall Grammar School – simply very, very groovy!

And Bonnie Leonard KGS….a bit magicy, if she doesn’t mind my saying so!

Both exhibitions are on until March the 16th – catch them while you can!
