Happy Valley Needs You!.... Fallen Fulmars…. From ‘Emergence’ Magazine….

Happy Valley Needs You!....

Happy Valley is a wonder-full vale in the Parish of Stenness.

In spring it’s full of snowdrops, then bluebells and other spring flowers.  Also, trees bursting into leaf and possibly taddies in the pond.  Summer, it’s buzzing with bees and a cool, shady place on a hot day.

There are benches on which to take your ease and breathe in the clean air, and carved stones identifying what you’ll find growing there.

All this is only possible through the efforts of the ‘Friends of Happy Valley’…..

…….and the ‘Friends of…’ need more members.  The work increases, both physically and administratively.

If you feel that you’d like to get involved in any way in maintaining a place which is a little piece of Orkney history please contact, on….

This is just the time of year to get involved - when the place is coming back to life after ‘sleeping’ through the winter.

Finding Joy in the Unknown

A Conversation with Dara McAnulty

“How can we choose to keep participating in the world when overwhelmed by darkness? How can we express an authentic love for the living world in ways that invite others into a space of reverence? In this week’s podcast, we’re featuring a conversation from 2021 with Irish writer, naturalist, and activist Dara McAnulty. As he wonders what the future might look like if we activated change from a place of care, rather than fear, Dara uplifts joy as an essential tool in transforming our current moment.
