Fear of Covid…..Mascara – Then and Now…. Heeding Wise Words…..

Fear of Covid…

Mike tested negative – is now Covid-free - though still lacking in energy and needing to recuperate.

We’ve learnt from this experience.  For 4 years we’ve been afraid of Covid,  in particular – afraid of me catching it, as, as it was in the early days, it would probably have been the end of me!

Now, Mike has had a dose of it – like a bad ‘flu.  I know…..it can vary – but this has shown us that it can be something which can be dealt with.  I have been vaccinated  - Mike wasn’t ‘allowed’ this year – ‘nuff said.  We’re now thinking that, with the protection of my vaccination, if I did get it and it was like a ‘flu – we could manage that situation.

So, we’re losing our fear of Covid.  We still won’t go to indoor places where there will be crowds of people  - we’ll still be Covid aware. We don’t go out in the evening anyway these days as we’re too tired.

We’ve had decades of holidays, going out for meals, to dances, to music gigs – no harm in having a quiet life from now on.  What we won’t allow ourselves to be afraid of is – going out for lunch, into shops.  We’ll be wary of having close contact with people, but – we will no longer allow Covid to put fear in us.

We are generally rejecting fear and doubt and replacing them with faith in the future – what will be, will be – within reasonable parameters of behaviour!  There’s a big difference between exercising caution and allowing yourself to live in fear - of anything.

Positive/Negative

Each Positive test was a blow

We’d become exhausted

Mike - with Covid

Me - I’m always tired.

His illness added layers

And levels to my fatigue

We looked to the negative test

To enable us to resume a more positive life.

Mascara – Then and Now…

I saw an ad. on the telly for some kind of sooper-dooper mascara which turns your eyes into a forest of lashes.

I remember my big sisters having a little blue plastic case containing a block of black stuff (no idea what it was made of) and a tiny brush.  They’d moisten the black stuff (sometimes by spitting on it), have a go at it with the brush and paint it onto their lashes.

To paraphrase Marilyn Monroe  “Men don’t make passes at girls with claggy lashes’.

Heeding Wise Words…..

Having encountered a couple of people on a Facebook page making tasteless ‘jokes’ about otter kebabs ( honestly - they did ),  I reminded myself of the words of Marcus Aurelius …

‘Begin the morning by saying to thyself, I shall meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial.  All those things happen to them by reason of their ignorance of what is good and evil.  …..

…..I can neither be injured by any of them, nor can I be angry with my kinsman, nor hate him.’

I was angry, briefly, gave them a piece of my mind, then – let it go.
