Roman Dodecahedrons + Waterloo!….
On Monday evening Mike and I watched a recorded television programme - Episode 4 of Alice Robert’s most recent ‘Digging For Britain’ series - in which a Roman dodecahedron was discovered at a recent dig – no-one had a definite idea of what it was for!
Which reminded me of a picture of an enigmatic Roman dodecahedron which Duncan Lunan….
….sent me in 2018, followed by an exchange with various folk about ancient carved stone balls. One interesting interpretation of the dodecahedron was that it was some kind of device used in spinning ….
“This is what I reckon the balls are and how they work.
‘The oldest actual “tool” used for spinning thread were common rocks. As the first spinners were nomadic tribes from pre-agrarian societies, it is unlikely that they would have carried their rocks from camp to camp, and would use stones found at each new site for their spinning. A leader thread would be spun by twisting the fibres between the fingers to a desired length, then the resulting thread would be tied around the rock. The rock could then be rotated to spin the fibres as they are played out between the fingers. Spinning with rocks is still done in remote parts of Asia among the nomadic tribes.’
There's a stone called the Towie stone which has intricate patterns on it which I reckon was a "spinning stone" but the patterns are designs for weaving and might well carry with it tradition designs particular to a family or group of spinners/weavers.”

Matthew Manning’s Healing Circles 2024….

“I’m excited to tell you that dates for all my healing circles this year are now confirmed and details are on my website. The first will be held on 23 March and they then run on a monthly basis.
I hold them exclusively at Brook House in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, where I also see patients individually. The town has excellent connections by road and is about 45 minutes by train from London.
My healing circles are as beneficial as working individually with a patient although the effect is possibly increased as you are part of a group with a shared intent. Some people come for personal healing whilst others use it as an opportunity to send distant healing to those in need.
Last year I posted here on Facebook numerous accounts of the extraordinary healing that many people experienced having attended my circles.
I strictly limit numbers to just 25 participants and circles invariably fill up several weeks beforehand so please don’t wait until a few days before to try and book!
