‘Skara’….
I’ve embarked on reading Andrew Appleby’s ‘Skara’ series again …
….and realised that this will be the first time I’m able to read them right through – previously there’s always been a wait for the next volume to be written and published! With any luck, by the time I’ve finished ‘The Fourth Wave’ – the Fifth will have been published – it’s been written – just….waiting….
The way Andrew describes Wrasse’s fish tattoo brought to mind the fish on Martin Murphy’s Kilmartin stone…

Fish, spawning. Add water to the cup mark and the spawn become little fishes swimming out along the channel at the base into the earth. Fecundity. We visited Kilmartin Glen in late April/early May 2017 and it was bursting with life, with new life, new growth everywhere we went. We came across many young couples with babies and small children – the first night there we ate at the Kilmartin Hotel and there was a big family party in the restaurant – lots of small children, running in and out. Fecundity.
Good memories.
I remember someone accusing Andrew of writing ‘Neolithic soft-porn’ – but I don’t agree with that view!
