Wave Action….

Yesterday we drove to the Bay of Skaill, parked up in the car park opposite the toilet block and, looking along the beach to our left saw that recent storms have scoured away a lot of the sand, leaving great platforms of rock exposed.  Then  we set off to our right along the beach.

At the end of the Bay, we looked up to where a path leads to the Broch of Verron….

…..to see that coastal erosion is taking its toll – part of the path has fallen and the bank needs shoring up……

Walking back along the beach, we saw two surfers emerging from the sea…..

It was freezing cold, starting to snow - but they didn’t care – they’d enjoyed riding the waves - the very waves which cause the coastal erosion!

On our way home,  the snow really set in in Sandwick – we were pleased to get home and ‘pull up the drawbridge’.

An Alternative Anti-smoking Strategy!.....

Someone we know has been stuck in Aberdeen airport because of the snow.  He successfully got from Kirkwall to Aberdeen – despite the fact that the first flight leaves before the first bus from Kirkwall arrives at the airport.  Eh???

Then – stuck in the airport listening to snow-ploughs trying to clear the runways and occupying himself by observing the strangeness of the world around him –  a sensible and often entertaining thing to do in such situations.  He noticed the following instructions for how to get into the smoking room …….

…and posted it on his Facebook page with the words….

“Some kind of dystopian award should probably go to Aberdeen airport For managing to monetize "letting people stand outside".

It could be an incentive to give up smoking!
