Hilary and her partner Robbie Harvey have steadily grown their business over the last decade, but challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic led to a rethink about the future. Now, after applications, investments, renovations, and a great deal of hard work, their latest collection – including pom hats, scarves, bed throws and blankets, is proudly made right here in Orkney.

Bright future for Shapinsay's Smithy

Community spirit at its best has been on show in Shapinsay this year, with local residents and groups coming together to revive, refurbish, and reopen the island’s Smithy Café and Restaurant for the first time in four years. The doors officially opened during the summer, and a steady stream of locals and visitors have been enjoying light bites, meals, and refreshments in the tasteful setting ever since.
