‘The Elgin Alibi’…..

A recent exchange with a chum about what‘s referred to as ’The Elgin Alibi’ led to an impulse to remind folk of  Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks….

From me to Eamonn…..

“Re. the 'Elgin Alibi'.... https://theorkneynews.scot/.../10/an-evening-with-dan-hicks/  . Nice one Eamonn!”

Eamonn’s reply….

“I’d love to have seen this.”

Me….

“It was postponed - but then I don't think it ever happened. I'd be just as pleased to have seen Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks! - old hippie that I am! I used to have the album - now have the C.D.

Role Playing….

I’ve been thinking about Shane MacGowan.  He was placed in the ‘role’ of hard-drinking, swearing hard-man.  He also composed music, wrote poetry and communed with the Spirit world……

…….but that aspect of his nature doesn’t get as much attention. Could be said that he placed himself in that role – tho’ possibly the more sensitive, aware aspect of his nature caused him to take to drink – it can be a very tempting idea – taking to drink – to stop thinking – feeling.

We get placed in roles which it’s then hard to step away from even when that role becomes hard to maintain, and can even be damaging to us, as our circumstances change.

I saw the following on Mathew Manning’s Healing Hub page….

…..and I think it’s relevant…

“Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.

I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives and a Godsend in others.

And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am.

The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.

Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.

Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.

Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.

Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.

And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.

What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself.

From ‘Free Tibet’….

“This is a pivotal moment for Tibet’s future.

For years, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has tried to hide its human rights violations in Tibet from the world. Governments have looked the other way while it has systematically attacked Tibet’s culture, religion, language, and way of life.

Governments that have been silent have a chance to redeem themselves in January when China undergoes a review of its human rights record at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Every government in the world will be participating in this process, but there is only so much that each one can cover given the scale of China’s human rights abuses. We have to act now and tell governments that they must confront China about the urgent situation in Tibet this January.

Tell your Foreign Minister they must raise Tibet at China’s Review.

In our emails over the past few years, we have documented forced disappearances, torture, and the deaths of Tibetans in custody. We have talked about how nearly one million Tibetan children have been forced into colonial boarding schools. And we have detailed the CCP’s attempts to bring Tibetan Buddhism under its control, including its claims that it has the sole right to identify the next Dalai Lama.

The evidence is inescapable: Tibet’s very existence is at stake. And right now, the CCP is even trying to erase the word “Tibet” from the global stage, insisting on its own term, “Xizang”.

This must stop now.
