Scrooged…
I’ve been puttering about how Christmas began in early November. The telly is full of it - ads. for jewellery, unusual alcohol and posh perfume….

Also, whole channels flogging ‘gifts’ – those things no-one really wants or needs – or, if they did, they’d get them for themselves.
And – films. Yesterday evening, feeling like some easy viewing, I happened on ‘Scrooged’ with Bill Murray….

…and I enjoyed it – it’s an entertaining film. I even found myself ‘welling up’ a bit at the end.
And then I was thinking – does it matter that Christmas is being ‘rolled out’ so early if it gets people thinking of being kinder to each other?
That’s one of the things I like about Christmas - I still believe that it’s a time when people, and even organizations and nations, are inclined to be kinder to each other. And if that spreads to be wider than at one, short time - that’s A GOOD THING, in my book.
Leaving out the hype and the ‘buy this’ ‘buy that’ - just - the being kinder.
I’m very familiar with ‘A Christmas Carol’, but watching ‘Scrooged’ reminded me that the future is unknown and can be changed depending on our actions in the here and now.
Recent events threw me into a state of fear – one of the lessons I’ve needed to learn is…
The past is where I was. Today is where I am. The future is unknown. So, it’s best to live in the day – from today – from where I am now. And if that isn’t too good – work to change it for the better.
Pretty much the message at the end of ‘A Christmas Carol’ …..and ‘Scrooged’.
