None in our garden – yet – the Blackbirds have a monopoly on stripping berries at the moment.

Kraak the Heron is by the pond every day!

From Kilmorack Gallery….

The gallery is already filling up with work for our Borrowed Land exhibition which previews on the 18th November. It's exciting to be surrounded by brilliant, fresh paintings and hard not to hang them immediately. There are already colourful new oils by Allan MacDonald, explosive sea painting by Janette Kerr and bird vases from Lotte Glob. We will release work with our official email next week, but not everything will be here until the week of the hang.

There is also a publication which accompanies this exhibition. 'Borrowed Land' is a hardback book which includes essays, images and quotes from artists about the landscape and how it influences their work. It is a real insight into the preciousness of the land.

There's also more good news about CONFESSIONS OF A HIGHALND ART DEALER. It has made it onto its third literary short list. This time Scotland's National Book Awards, First Book award. Some must have enjoyed it's surreal womp through twenty-five years of creating a gallery. The easiest way to get a copy is to buy it directly from the gallery.

More About The Holm Tomb…..

https://archaeologyorkney.com/2023/11/04/holm-cairn-talk/

I prefer to refer to these structures as cairns…......in old churches there are folk buried under the floor and in the walls, that doesn't make the church a tomb.

They're for all the big human things, joinings, namings, partings.  I see the small cairns as the 'parish churches', with Maes Howe as the cathedral!
