I'm never sure what constitutes a Haiku - this might be one - inspired by your image, Rosie…

How to Make Applejack’….

Bartholomew writes a regular Friday Fraiku – and….

How to Make Applejack

On this moonless October night
I sneak into Farmer Greg's orchard
the sour sweet odor of rotting apples
the squish under my boot

He and his musket should be asleep
but the hounds might catch my frightful scent
I load a gunny sack and absquatulate
to my flinty acre — root cellar close to empty

Stolen apples make a decent cider
to leave out when the snow drifts 'round my cabin
chip away the ice to reveal the bitter joy
the very marrow of this life

From Stromness Museum…

“Stromness Museum opened its doors to five Orkney artists, who used its vast natural history and other collections as inspiration to create fresh designs.

We're excited to share a new collaboration with Orkney textile artist Kirsteen Stewart, as part of our 'Steps to Sustainability' project.

Kirsteen has been inspired by the museum collection to develop a new range of products. Watch out for new bags and scarves with unique new designs on our website soon.

Kirsteen said: “The Stromness Museum nature collection feels like a great fit for me. I spent so many hours examining the birds eggs in particular as a child, and loved visiting the museum. Each time I go back I learn and spot something new.

The natural world and landscape of Orkney has always been such an inspiration to me from seaweed, to birds feathers, to the many different plants and flowers. We live in such an abundant place and nature can teach us this, if we pay attention.”
