‘If It Wasna’ For The Farmers’…….From ‘Unbound’…... A Frog In The Broch!.....

by Bernie Bell - 09:24 on 13 October 2023

To paraphrase the song 'If It Wasna’ For The Work O' The Weaver'...

‘If It Wasna’ For The Farmer’

If it wasna’ for the Farmer

What would we do?

We wouldna’ have the milk

To put in a cuppa tea

We wouldna’ have the milk

To mak’ cheesy sauces too

If it wansa’ for the work o' the farmer.

Farming is a trade

That never can grow stale

As long as we need grain

To mak’ both bread and ale

So let us all be merry

O'er a bicker o' good ale

And we'll drink to the health

O’ the farmer!

From ‘Unbound’…

"WHERE ARE THE FELLOWS WHO CUT THE HAY?
by Robert Ashton

Optimistic yet realistic, Robert Ashton's new book is a thoughtful exploration of rural life in the twenty-first century, and how the new generation is finding value in traditional country trades and ways. Exploring their stories, Robert meets people who today are bringing back past techniques and approaches to care for the countryside."

A Frog In The Broch!.....

We have a mini-broch by the pond in our garden…

https://theorkneynews.scot/2022/04/09/the-broch-of-gorseness-as-it-stands/

Mike was clearing around it preparatory to the meadow being strimmed (if we can find someone to strim it for us!).  Forget-me-nots had seeded into gaps in the stones – not a good idea to have things actually growing in the walls – so Mike was carefully pulling them out when…. a little face appeared in one of the gaps – a small frog!

So, not voles or rats, but the stronghold of the Clan McFrog.

We’ll get a photo if we can.

I wonder does The McFrog know that it’s the weekend of the OAS Brochtoberfest?...
